The Royal Commonwealth Society Canterbury (NZ) Branch Incorporated
The Society exists to increase understanding and collaboration between Canterbury people and other peoples and countries of the Commonwealth by:
- Providing funds for appropriate scholarships, prizes and grants particularly for the young; and
- Arranging events for our members to recognise the historic and current links with the Commonwealth. The Society is affiliated with the Royal Commonwealth Society, 40-41 Pall Mall, London SW1Y5JQ. More information: www.thercs.org

The Canterbury Branch of the Royal Commonwealth Society has been in existence for more than 100 years
The Society promotes the work and values of the Commonwealth of Nations and makes grants and donations to Commonwealth-related communities, organisations and individuals (particularly students) that fit the Society’s goal of fostering well-being within the Commonwealth
Regular Society Events:
- Commonwealth Day Formal Dinner
held in March – with a Guest Speaker - Queen’s Birthday Formal Dinner
held in June – with a Guest Speaker - A formal function to recognise the current New Year’s Honours
and this year’s recipients of Queen’s Birthday Honours
held in September - Informal functions featuring a range of speakers,
including recipients of our scholarship grants to Commonwealth students at Canterbury tertiary institutions, Canterbury high schools and AFS teacher exchange between New Zealand and other Commonwealth countries.
