Common Leaders Day 2017

THURSDAY, 8 DECEMBER 2016 PR: Government backs CYNZ to run Common Leaders Day 2017

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE   Commonwealth Youth New Zealand is delighted to announce that the organistion has received a grant from the Ministry of Youth Development’s Youth Fund to run the Common Leaders Day programme in 2017. Building on the success of the 2016 programme, CLD 2017 seeks to up-skill young people, enabling them to better participate in their communities through developing leadership and decision making skills. CLD will be held on 13 March – Commonwealth Day – and will touch on the 2017 Commonwealth theme of peace-building. The government’s support for CLD 2017 will enable CYNZ to provide a leadership development opportunity for senior high school students where cost will not be a barrier for attendance. Aaron Hape, Executive Director of Commonwealth Youth New Zealand says that CLD is a fantastic opportunity to encourage young people to be involved in their communities, as well as increase understanding of the Commonwealth. “Commonwealth Youth New Zealand enables bright young people to build global connections and nourishes international leadership talent in New Zealand,” says Mr Hape. “We know that young people are the next generation of global leaders, and in a world where there is increasing conflict and turmoil, it is important that our leaders are equiped with the right tools to lead them through adversity, especially on the international stage. “CYNZ thanks the Government for supporting CLD 2017, and we encourage high school seniors to get in touch with us if they are interested in attending,” Mr Hape says.
