“On the 17th of August 2020 Commonwealth Youth New Zealand held its annual National Student Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting”.
Due to Covid-19 social distancing measures the event went ahead using, online video conference, with more than 50 participants from high schools around New Zealand representing Commonwealth nations in debate about the global refugee crisis.
Nine students participated from the Canterbury region representing Avonside Girls High School and Riccarton High School.
The event was well received by its participants in its online format, however, CYNZ are hoping to return to the regular in-person format in the coming years. Thanks to the continued support of the Royal Commonwealth Society the event did go ahead online this year and was accessible to people all around New Zealand from their bubbles.”
