UK Newsletter April 2018

Commonwealth Voices

The April edition of the RCS magazine, Commonwealth Voices is now published. Containing coverage of Commonwealth Day celebrations around the world and views on the upcoming CHOGM, it can be read online or downloaded.

RCS International Meeting

As we emerge from this busy month, we will be turning our attention to the International Meeting in October (15-18). We would be pleased to consider session content suggestions and would ask that you send those ideas to your Regional Co-ordinators with whom we will then discuss the proposed programme.

CHOGM and the Summit

As has been widely broadcast, the Commonwealth Summit starts on 16 April, so less than a week away! For those attending the various forums or just in London during that week, we’ve created a handy calendar of public access events to view or download.

News and Blogs

We have created an embed code, the means by which you can pull in RCS news and blog updates to your own websites. If this is of interest let us know whether your branch/your website developers would like access to the code.

Commonwealth Games

The Queen’s Baton Relay, which began in London on Commonwealth Day last year, came to an end on 4 April as the arrival of the baton on Australia’s Gold Coast marked the beginning of the 2018 Commonwealth Games. A dazzling opening ceremony kicked off what has already been five days of incredible sport – with plenty more to come. The Gold Coast 2018 website has daily summaries and event schedules to help you stay up to date.

‘A Crucible of Collaboration’

In our latest Commonwealth Voices blog, Dr G Richard Olds from St George’s University, Grenada, discusses the importance of the Commonwealth in fostering international, cross-sector collaboration within medicine and education. He also highlights the conference of the Council for Education in the Commonwealth which will be held at his university next year.
