Commonwealth Day 2026
Commonwealth Day 2026 was celebrated with a service in the Transitional Cathedral at 10am followed with High Tea held at Hotel Montreal in the afternoon when winners of the Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition 2025 were invited to join us with their parents.
This year 1 Senior Silver, 4 Senior Bronze, 6 Junior Gold, 6 Junior Silver and 3 Junior Bronze medal winners received certificates and a monetary prize. Guests were amazed at the imaginative writing and style of the essays and enjoyed reading the essays displayed.
The essays centred on the theme “Our Commonwealth Journey”, featuring prompts focused on learning about different member nations, sea voyages, and literary adventures.

Book Journey: Discovering a secret door that leads straight into your favourite book and explaining what happens next.
Learning Culture: Writing about a time you learned something interesting about a Commonwealth country different from your own.
Sea Voyage: An account of a sea voyage from one Commonwealth country to a small island Commonwealth nation, detailing the sights and people met.
Senior Category Topics (Ages 14–18)
Metaphorical Growth: Discussing how the life journey of a plant in a community can serve as a metaphor for societal growth and interconnectedness.
Shared Bonds: Exploring the overarching theme of the 2.7 billion citizens and 56 member countries sharing a 75-year modern history.
